Shimla, April 15, 2025:
Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Himachal government, alleging rampant corruption in the Power Corporation and demanding a CBI probe into the suspicious death of Vimal Negi, Chief Engineer of the Corporation. “The case is far more complex than it appears. The allegations and documents suggest corruption worth thousands of crores. It’s shameful that the government and police are now trying to shift blame onto the deceased official himself,” said Thakur.

He slammed the government for ignoring the cries of Negi’s family and protecting corrupt officials. “Why is the government afraid of acting against those named by the Corporation? Instead, it is investigating the late officer’s assets. This is a clear case of injustice and misgovernance.”

Thakur also criticized CM Sukhvinder Sukhu for what he called repetitive and hollow speeches. “For the past three years, the Chief Minister has been reciting the same script—be it on Himachal Day or during the Budget session. Instead of announcing new welfare measures or fulfilling promises, the government keeps blaming the previous BJP regime and the Centre.”

He added that schemes being touted as state achievements are actually Centre-sponsored, and more money is being spent on their publicity than on implementation. Thakur questioned the silence of the government on growing lawlessness and asked why corruption is being ignored. He reiterated the demand for a CBI probe to bring out the truth in the Vimal Negi case.
