CM  Puppet in  Hands of Officials: Jairam Thakur

1 min read

Shimla, October 4, 2025 – Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, launched a scathing attack on the state government, alleging that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has become a puppet in the hands of bureaucrats. Thakur said the administration is running on “acting” officers with no permanent appointments for key posts including the DGP, Chief Secretary, Forest HoFF, Excise & Taxation Director, and even the Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission.

He further accused the government of favoring retired officials through extensions and reappointments while denying opportunities to youth. Thakur questioned the CM’s decision to reject new IAS, IPS, and IFS officers from the Centre, yet extending tenure to tainted or questionable officers. He termed it a contradiction and a betrayal of public trust.

Highlighting the financial burden on the state, Thakur said while the government cites economic concerns for refusing new officers, it simultaneously bears the cost of high-ranking retired officers with extended service. “This regime is not about ‘Vyavastha Parivartan’ (system change), but ‘Vyavastha Patan’ (system collapse),” he added.
