April 12, 2025 – Chamba/Bharmour: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur launched a scathing attack on the Congress government during his visit to Chamba district, addressing BJP active member conferences in Mahela and Parel. He accused CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of misleading the people with false promises and failing to deliver on development in tribal areas.
Thakur praised BJP’s strength as the world’s largest democratic party with over 13 crore members and credited dedicated party workers for organizational growth in Himachal Pradesh. He said the Congress-led state government was faltering and had lost public trust. “The current government came to power on lies and continues to run on deceit,” he remarked, asserting that BJP will continue to raise public issues both on the streets and in the Assemble.
Highlighting developmental works undertaken during his tenure, Thakur said, “The road network in these remote hills was made possible entirely through central funding.” He also praised local MLA Dr. Janak Raj for serving the region both as a legislator and a skilled doctor.
Addressing another gathering in Parel, he criticized the closure of popular outreach programs like Jan Manch and mocked the government’s missteps post the infamous ‘Jungle Murgi’ incident in Kupvi. Thakur stated that despite receiving central funds from NABARD, CRF, ADB, and World Bank, the state government fails to acknowledge this support and instead claims otherwise.
He lamented the closure of over 2,000 institutions opened by the previous BJP government and termed the present administration as one known for shutting down services rather than creating them.
Jairam Thakur also expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Kuldeep Kumar, a braveheart from Kohalwin village, Nadoun constituency, Hamirpur district. “His supreme sacrifice in the defense of our motherland will always be remembered with pride and gratitude,” said Thakur, praying for strength to the bereaved family.
The Leader of Opposition directed concerned authorities to urgently restore connectivity on the damaged Manglore bridge on NH-305 linking Banjar and Seraaj areas. He also requested MLA Surender Shourie to assess the site and coordinate with officials for immediate relief and a permanent solution.
