Cloudbursts Ravage Himachal: 18 Dead, Dozens Missing in Mandi

1 min read

Mandi, July 02

Himachal Pradesh witnessed a devastating natural disaster as 17 cloudburst incidents — 15 of them in Mandi district alone — wreaked havoc across the state. Flash floods, continuous rains, and landslides turned peaceful towns into disaster zones. In total, 18 people have lost their lives, 33 are missing, and dozens injured. Relief teams have managed to rescue 332 people so far.

Mandi district has suffered the worst damage as 24 houses and 12 cowsheds were completely destroyed, and 30 livestock perished. The Pateekri Power Project near Kuklah was washed away, and several bridges collapsed, cutting off major road access. In Karsog, old markets, villages like Kutti, Sakrol, Panjrat, and Sanarli were ravaged by sudden torrents at midnight, leaving families clinging to hope in darkness.

Locals described terrifying scenes of homes, shops, and vehicles vanishing within minutes. Survivors criticized the delayed administrative response — some claiming that search operations began 12 hours after distress calls were made.
