Cloudburst in Samej: CM Announces Immediate Relief Package
1 min readShimla, 2nd August 2024** – Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited the cloudburst site at Samej in Shimla district, announcing immediate assistance of Rs. 50,000 per affected family and Rs. 5,000 per month for three months for renting accommodation. The cloudburst left six dead and 47 missing, with 33 persons reported missing in Samej alone.
The Chief Minister assured comprehensive support, including free essential items and financial aid for rebuilding houses. He directed the district administration to provide all necessary assistance to the displaced families. The government is committed to rehabilitating the affected and ensuring their safety.
During the visit, CM Sukhu met with affected families and students of Government Senior Secondary School Samej, which was severely damaged. He promised to reconstruct the school and encouraged students to remain strong.
In addition to Samej, the cloudburst caused extensive damage in Shimla, Mandi, and Kullu districts, with heavy rains resulting in the destruction of houses, bridges, and roads. Rescue operations are ongoing, with efforts focused on finding the missing and reopening blocked roads.
