Children’s Literature Festival “Mimansa 2” Commences in Shimla

The inauguration of the Children’s Literature Festival was held in Shimla today, organized jointly by the Department of Language and Culture and the Keekli Charitable Trust. Renowned children’s literature writer Rupa Pai and famous cartoonist Uday Shankar were present as chief guests.
The program commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest, special guest, and the Secretary of the Department of Language and Culture, Rakesh Kanwar, Director Dr. Pankaj Lalit, and Joint Director Manjeet Sharma, along with former administrative officer Shri Nivas Joshi.

During the first session of the Children’s Literature Festival, discussions were held on the book ‘The Yoga Sutras’ written by children’s literature writer Rupa Pai. The book was reviewed by Heerain, Pritha Dogra, Ridhima Sharma, and Shalini Sharma, highlighting important points related to yoga practice, mental purity, and breathing exercises, inspiring youth readers.
In the second session, a poetry recitation by children was organized, where young poets including Vanshika, Sarika, Sakshi Rana, Vedansh Varma, Ahana, Tannvi, Vishali Sharma, Aditya, Ekta Soni, Navya, Tannvi Kondal, Ishita, and Ashima Gautam recited their compositions. This session was chaired by the eminent writer and performer Bharati Kuthiala.
The third session featured a discussion on the book ‘Folk Tales of Himachal’ written by the state’s renowned storyteller and author Sudarshan Vashisht. Shivani and Anchal shared their views on the stories, moderated by Dr. Bhawani Singh, Assistant Professor in the Hindi Department at Himachal Pradesh University, emphasizing the importance of preserving local folklore.
In the fourth session, the role of Sumit Rajki’s book ‘Shimla Bazaar’ was discussed by Bhoomika Thakur, Priyanka, and Ayushi Varma. This session was moderated by the famous author Usha Bandy.
The fifth and final session of the program featured a speech competition among school students, with 20 students participating. Professor Nina Jain, Assistant Professor Vanita Supaiya, and Dr. Sapna Chandel acted as judges for the competition.
Secretary of the Department of Language and Culture, Rakesh Kanwar, shared his experiences of student life with all the young students present, encouraging them to read beyond their curriculum and explore various inspiring books, believing that such reading habits will lead to their holistic development and contribute to societal progress in the future.
