Accuses Sukhu Govt of Political Vendetta, Abuse of Power
Shimla, December 18, 2025:
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur delivered one of his sharpest attacks against the Sukhu government, accusing it of political vendetta, misuse of administrative machinery, intimidation of opposition lawmakers, and deliberate harassment of critics. Addressing the media in Shimla, he warned that the Chief Minister “is walking a path that will not end well,” calling the current governance style “deeply troubling and destructive.”
Thakur alleged that BJP and Independent MLAs who withdrew support from the Congress are being targeted through police cases, continuous interrogation, and fabricated charges. He said Hamirpur MLA Ashish Sharma is being “forced toward jail through engineered legal pressure,” while other former Congress MLAs and their families are facing raids, property action, and coercive questioning.
He accused government departments—particularly police and the Information & Public Relations Department—of acting as political agents and crossing professional boundaries. He called it alarming that government platforms are being used to target rival political symbols and leaders, warning officers to “not cross the limit.”
Raising questions over the Kangra Carnival fundraising letter, he said the move resembled a financial collection drive rather than an official event. He questioned why no bank account number was provided if payments were legitimate, calling it “a deeply suspicious exercise” that could mirror previous fundraising scandals linked to Congress leaders.
Thakur condemned the government for mishandling disaster-related cases, claiming that families who lost relatives during calamities are being summoned to police stations instead of being offered support.
He also questioned the silence of the government on major illegal logging and mining cases in Banjar, Dharampur, Una, Kangra, and Hamirpur, alleging that investigations stalled when names connected to ruling party figures surfaced.
Thakur said the government has abandoned development and turned governance into retaliation, calling the situation “a new low for Himachal politics.”
