Shimla, September 21:

On the fourth day of the monsoon session in the assembly, there was a commotion during the question hour when opposition MLA Randhir Sharma raised the issue of pending payments to contractors. In response to the MLA’s question, the Chief Minister stated that no contractor’s payment is pending. The opposition accused the government of providing false figures and began protests inside the assembly. Later, they walked out of the session.

Former Chief Minister and opposition leader Jairam Thakur stated that since the Congress government came to power, payments to contractors have been halted, causing distress to the labor class. The government has made payments to some selected contractors while deliberately withholding payments to others. The opposition raised the issue in the assembly, and the Chief Minister is providing incorrect information, misleading the assembly, which the opposition cannot tolerate. Therefore, the opposition staged a walkout from the session.

Meanwhile, in response to the opposition’s allegations, Minister of Public Works Vikramaditya Singh stated that the previous BJP government had awarded contracts worth nearly 700 crore rupees to its favored contractors just before the elections. Now, the Congress government is being accused of irregularities in these contracts, which the Congress government will never do. The government will investigate these contracts, and payments will be made for work that is found to be genuine. Irregularities carried out for the private gain of the BJP will not be covered up; they will be thoroughly investigated.
