Chandigarh-Manali NH Closed Again Due to Landslides and Heavy Rainfall
1 min readMandi, August 22: Due to the continuous rainfall since last evening, the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway has once again been closed. This national highway has been closed due to debris falling from the hillside and road caving in at the temporary link near Pandoh Dam. As a result, more than a thousand vehicles are stuck on both sides of the highway.
For vehicles traveling from Kullu towards Mandi, around 600 vehicles are stranded near the Kanchi curve. Similarly, for vehicles heading from Mandi to Kullu, nearly 700 vehicles are stuck between 4 to 9 miles. The persistent rain and inclement weather have posed challenges in reopening this route.
Additional Superintendent of Police Sagar Chandra mentioned that due to the closure of the temporary link road, hundreds of vehicles are stranded from Kanchi curve to Jogini Mata Temple. Smaller vehicles are being redirected via Bajaura-Kamand route. An alternative route has been established to allow vehicles to travel from Kullu to Mandi until 10 AM.
He further informed that landslides have also occurred at various spots along the Bajaura-Kamand route. To remove the debris, intermittent closures of this route will be enforced. He cautioned drivers to be cautious while traveling through landslide-prone areas. Additionally, he emphasized that rain increases the risk of landslides in such regions. Travelers are advised to exercise caution and drive carefully through these potentially hazardous zones.
