Center of Excellence in Mental Health’ to Soon Be Operational at Tanda Hospital
1 min readShimla – Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the upcoming operation of the ‘Center of Excellence in Mental Health’ at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Govt. Medical College & Hospital (RPGMCH), Tanda. The facility will have a capacity of 100 beds and will soon commence B.Sc Nursing classes.
In a review meeting of Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) and RPGMCH Tanda, the Chief Minister stressed the need for upgrading health institutions with modern techniques and addressing future requirements. He approved the filling of various posts, including specialist doctors, paramedics, and other categories, to ensure quality medical care. A staff nurse will be deployed for every six patients to maintain high standards of care.
Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized reducing waiting times for consultations and increasing the number of registration counters at Tanda Medical College. In 2023, the hospital treated 605,489 patients, including 72,069 by the medicine unit, 56,124 by orthopedics, and 25,856 in general surgery.
Similarly, the Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, treated 872,829 patients across various departments in 2023. The Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties at Chamyana in Shimla is also being strengthened.
The meeting was attended by Health Minister Dr. (Col) Dhani Ram Shandil, Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthy, and other senior officials.
