1 min read

Shimla, July 31 : In a new development in the mysterious death case of HPPCL Chief Engineer Vimal Negi, ASI Pankaj Sharma—one of the first officers to investigate the case—has approached the Himachal Pradesh High Court alleging violation of his personal liberty. He claimed that CCTV cameras and security at his residence infringe on his freedom.

The High Court, while hearing the matter on Wednesday, allowed CBI to be added as Respondent No. 5 in the petition. All parties have been asked to submit their replies by August 20.

Negi had gone missing on March 10, and his body was recovered from Gobind Sagar Lake on March 18. Allegations have surfaced that Sharma tampered with digital evidence like a pen drive and laptop. The CBI is probing these claims and has already questioned over 90 individuals, including HPPCL staff.

The case has been registered under IPC 2023 Sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 3(5), which carry up to 10 years’ imprisonment. The CBI investigation was initiated following a plea from Negi’s wife.
