Candle March Held by APG Shimla University in Protest of Rape and Murder of Female Doctor
1 min readShimla, August 2024: In response to the shocking rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata, students and faculty of APG Shimla University, including those from the paramedical department, held a candle march on Wednesday. The march was conducted within the university campus to express outrage and demand justice for the victim. Participants paid tribute to the deceased by observing two minutes of silence and called for the strictest punishment for the perpetrators.
Dr. Ankit Thakur, Registrar of APG Shimla University, condemned the incident, stating that such a crime is not just against one woman but against humanity as a whole. He urged both the West Bengal and central governments to ensure swift and severe punishment for the guilty. The candle march, he said, represents a light against the darkness that such heinous acts try to spread in society. Dr. Thakur emphasized that the fight for justice will continue until the perpetrators are punished, and justice is served for all victims.
The march saw participation from various faculty members, department heads, and non-teaching staff, along with Assistant Dean of Student Welfare Atul Dubey, Dr. Maninder Kaur, and Dr. Monica Balthu.
