Call for Equal Rights for Divyang Women at Umang Webinar

Shimla, March 8: On International Women’s Day, Umang Foundation organized a webinar on “Challenges and Future Paths for Divyang Women.” The chief guest, National Award-winning visually impaired activist Veena Mehta Verma, emphasized the need for society to change its perspective toward Divyang women.
She stated that despite constitutional provisions, deep-rooted biases continue to discriminate against disabled women. Wheelchair user and MBBS student Nikita Chaudhary highlighted that Divyang women face 5% more cases of exploitation than others.
The event was presided over by visually impaired Assistant Professor and Election Commission Youth Icon Muskan Negi. Other speakers, including government employees and educators, stressed the need for better facilities, awareness, and empowerment for disabled women.
