Bus Catches Fire in Himachal Pradesh’s Ghumarwin: Passengers Injured, Locals Aid Rescue

In the town of Ghumarwin in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh, a bus belonging to the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) caught fire in the engine compartment at Dakdi Chowk. Some passengers sustained minor injuries while trying to disembark from the bus. The bus was en route from Shimla to Syoh.

According to reports, when the HRTC bus arrived at Dakdi Chowk on Friday afternoon, smoke started emanating from the engine. Amidst panic among passengers, some of them sustained minor injuries while trying to exit the bus.

The driver sought assistance from locals and managed to control the fire in the engine in time. Former Food Supply Minister Rajendra Garg helped in transporting the injured passengers to the hospital. After receiving treatment, the passengers were discharged. The bus belonged to the Dharampur depot and had a total of 27 passengers on board.

Bus driver Santosh Kumar explained that as soon as passengers stopped the bus, smoke started coming out of the engine, followed by a sudden fire outbreak. Fortunately, the incident occurred in the midst of the market area, allowing locals to help extinguish the fire in time with the assistance of the bus driver. Otherwise, the situation could have been much worse.
