BJP’s Sudden Shift as “Employee Friendly” Exposed: Congress Alleges Political Opportunism Amid Crisis

Shimla, August 25: Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary Baldev Thakur has accused the BJP of attempting to exploit the state’s current economic challenges, exacerbated by natural disasters, for political gain. Thakur criticized the BJP for instigating state employees and engaging in divisive politics when their other political strategies failed.
Thakur pointed out the hypocrisy in the BJP’s current stance as an advocate for employee rights. He reminded the public that during its tenure, the BJP government resorted to violent measures, including lathi charges and firing on employees who protested for their rights. This, according to Thakur, reveals the BJP’s “dual-faced” approach.
He further praised Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for his ongoing efforts to uplift all sections of society since taking office. Thakur highlighted that one of the first actions by CM Sukhu’s administration was the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), something the previous BJP government had firmly rejected.
Addressing the issue of pending financial dues to employees, Thakur explained that most of these liabilities date back to the BJP’s tenure from 2017 to 2022. He criticized the BJP for failing to settle these dues, which now amount to over ₹10,000 crores. He also condemned the previous government’s harsh measures against employees, including the application of strict laws and suspensions.
Thakur urged the BJP to support the current government’s efforts to manage the state’s financial situation post-disaster rather than inciting unrest among employees. He emphasized that the government is committed to clearing all dues within six months, once the state stabilizes from the ongoing crisis.
