BJP Trying to Halt Rs. 1500 Pension Scheme for Women: Jainab

Jainab Chandel, the President of the Himachal Pradesh Mahila Congress, accused the BJP of being anti-women, stating that the party is unable to tolerate women’s empowerment, which is why it is creating obstacles in providing a pension of Rs. 1500 to women and repeatedly approaching the Election Commission. She said that the current state government, fulfilling its electoral promise, has initiated the “Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana” to provide women with a monthly pension of Rs. 1500. However, the BJP leaders are attempting to halt a pre-existing scheme by citing the Model Code of Conduct for Elections. She mentioned that the BJP merely pretends to be pro-women while opposition parties are entirely against women’s empowerment. Apart from securing votes in elections, the BJP does nothing for women.
Jainab Chandel stated that regardless of BJP’s opposition, the Rs. 1500 pension will continue to benefit women from April 2024. Women in Lahaul and Spiti district are already receiving the pension, and women from other districts of the state will also benefit from this scheme starting April 2024. She said that the state government has approved a budget of Rs. 800 crore to implement the scheme across the state and has already issued notifications for its implementation from April 1st. Despite this, the BJP is continuously demanding a halt to the scheme by approaching the Election Commission, which is clear evidence of their anti-women stance. She emphasized that the reality of BJP leaders has been exposed to the women of Himachal Pradesh, and women power is ready to teach a tough lesson to the BJP in the elections. Jainab Chandel stated that the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana will bring about significant changes in women’s lives, providing them with Rs. 18000 annually, which will help them become self-reliant, something that the BJP is unable to digest.
