Rohru/Shimla, October 14 — BJP State Media Coordinator Karan Nanda addressed a meeting at the party headquarters in Kotkhai, highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for the nationwide campaigns ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi’.

He said the aim of this initiative is to connect every citizen with the spirit of Swadeshi and transform it into a mass movement, spreading the message of self-reliance across the nation. Nanda clarified that Swadeshi means promoting and using products made in India — not boycotting foreign goods, but prioritising Indian products and skills.

The campaign will continue till December 25, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Nanda noted that PM Modi’s vision to make India a developed nation by 2047 lies at the core of this movement, rooted in Swadeshi.

Under the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, India’s Khadi sales rose to ₹1.7 lakh crore from ₹31,000 crore during the UPA era, he said. Similarly, Make in India has transformed mobile manufacturing from just 2 factories in 2014 to 300 factories today, making 99.2% of phones Made in India. Exports have surged from ₹15,000 crore to ₹2 lakh crore, while toy imports have declined by 52%. India now ranks first globally in tractor production and continues to expand in multiple manufacturing sectors.

Nanda concluded that India has become the world’s fourth-largest economy under PM Modi’s leadership and is swiftly advancing to the third position, remaining the fastest-growing major economy for the past four years.
