BJP Flags Concerns Over HPMC Finances, Highlights Pending Dues to Apple Growers

1 min read

Shimla: BJP state spokesperson Sandipani Bhardwaj has raised concerns regarding the financial management of the Himachal Pradesh Marketing Corporation (HPMC), particularly in relation to pending payments under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS).

She stated that payments amounting to ₹120.59 crore to apple growers are reportedly pending, affecting a large number of orchardists across the state. Questioning the financial position of HPMC, Bhardwaj noted that despite such liabilities, a profit of ₹5 crore has been indicated, and called for greater clarity and transparency in financial reporting.

Referring to the procurement of nearly 98,506 metric tonnes of apples in 2025, she said that while procurement was undertaken at scale, timely financial arrangements for payments appear to have been inadequate. She emphasized the importance of sound fiscal planning and efficient implementation to ensure that growers are not adversely impacted.

Bhardwaj also expressed concern over the utilisation of infrastructure such as Controlled Atmosphere (CA) storage facilities, suggesting that improved operational management could enhance outcomes for the horticulture sector.

She urged the government to address the issue at the earliest, ensure timely disbursal of dues, and maintain transparency in financial processes, so as to safeguard the interests of apple growers and strengthen confidence in the system.
