BJP Faces Turmoil as Dissent Among Denied Ticket Leaders Brews Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections
2 min readMandi, March 27: After offering shelter to six rebel MLAs of the Congress, the BJP is facing significant turmoil with several leaders resigning from their positions, causing concern for the party’s future. Another challenge now looms over the BJP, as discontent brews among those leaders who were denied tickets by the party in the 2022 Assembly elections.
This concern has prompted all such leaders associated with the Mandi parliamentary constituency to convene a meeting today in Pandoh to strategize for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The meeting, convened at the behest of former BJP MLA Jawahar Thakur, was chaired by former BJP MLA Colonel Indar Singh, who hails from Sarkaghat.
Among those present at the meeting were former BJP MLAs Tejwant Negi from Kinnaur, Kishori Lal from Anni, Ram Singh from Kullu who was also the chairman of HPMC, Hiteshwar Singh, son of former MP Maheshwar Singh, who is from Mandi, and Abhishek Thakur, son of former Minister Roop Singh Thakur, from Sundernagar. These leaders had contested as independents in the 2022 Assembly elections after being denied tickets by the BJP. All of them garnered over a lakh votes.
Now, all eyes are on these leaders as they focus on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. They may align with either the BJP or the Congress, depending on whichever party offers them the best prospects along with their supporters. On the other hand, it is noteworthy that while the BJP has extended shelter to Congress rebels, it has yet to address the concerns of its own dissenting leaders.
There are also reports suggesting that these dissenting leaders may collectively field their own candidate in the electoral arena. When former MLA Jawahar Thakur was asked about this, he confirmed the convening of the meeting and stated that discussions were underway regarding future actions, and decisions would be taken after consulting with all stakeholders.
