BJP Criticizes Congress Over Election Conduct in Himachal Pradesh

2 min read

Shimla: BJP State President Dr. Rajeev Bindal has strongly criticized the Congress party for its handling of recent elections in Himachal Pradesh, accusing it of winning the by-elections through fear, coercion, and financial influence.

Dr. Bindal highlighted that despite the Congress government being in power for the past 18 months, the BJP managed to secure victories in the Lok Sabha elections, winning four seats and 61 out of 68 assembly constituencies. In the recent by-elections, the BJP won the Hamirpur seat, located in the Chief Minister’s home district, despite significant efforts and resources invested by the Congress.

Election Tactics Under Scrutiny

Dr. Bindal alleged that the Congress, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, resorted to unethical practices, including extensive use of state machinery and funds. He claimed that baseless legal cases were filed against BJP candidates and that an atmosphere of fear and intimidation was created to deter BJP’s campaign efforts. “Chief Minister spent seven days campaigning in the streets and neighborhoods of Hamirpur but still lost,” Dr. Bindal remarked.

Accusations of Corruption and Coercion

In the Nalagarh by-election, Dr. Bindal accused the Congress of opening illegal liquor and drug dens in every neighborhood and using intimidation tactics against voters. Similarly, in the Dehra by-election, he alleged that BJP candidates were harassed by police, and significant amounts of money and liquor were used to influence the electorate. Dr. Bindal stated that these by-elections were won by the Congress through unethical means, highlighting a significant misuse of power and resources.

He emphasized that the people of Himachal Pradesh are aware of the corruption allegations against the government and questioned the source and use of the funds involved. Dr. Bindal concluded by asserting that it was the government, not the Congress party, that fought the elections in Himachal Pradesh.
