Bishop Cotton School Celebrates 78th Independence Day with Grandeur

Shimla, August 15, 2024: Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, marked the 78th Independence Day with a grand celebration, graced by the esteemed presence of Mr. Manpreet Vohra, former Indian High Commissioner to Australia and Deputy High Commissioner to Pakistan, as the Chief Guest.

Mr. Vohra was welcomed with a guard of honour from the school’s NCC contingent. He then oversaw the hoisting of the Indian flag on Himachal Pradesh’s tallest flagpole, standing at 106 feet, while the school brass band played the national anthem.

In a special Chapel service, Mr. Vohra delivered an inspiring address to the students, discussing the challenges and opportunities India faces as it emerges as a global economic power. An alumnus of St. Edward’s, Shimla, he reminisced about the friendly rivalry between his alma mater and Bishop Cotton School, recalling how he admired the Cottonians’ smart appearance and competitive spirit.

Bishop Cotton School, founded in 1859, is celebrating 165 years of educational excellence. The school has a rich legacy, having produced distinguished alumni across various fields, from the armed forces to business, administration, literature, and the arts. The institution continues to provide a strong foundation for students, preparing them for global roles in the future.
