Himachal Pradesh; Rapid Response Teams Activated

Kangra, Dec 18: Migratory birds have begun arriving at various water bodies, including Pong Dam and Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur. While the avian visitors bring a spectacle for bird enthusiasts, concerns about the potential spread of bird flu linger in the air. The district’s Animal Husbandry Department has issued an alert, and rapid action teams have been formed at both district and block levels.

Not only are water bodies like Pong Dam and Gobind Sagar Lake attracting migratory birds, but poultry farms in the district are also on high alert. Despite no reported cases of bird flu in the region so far, authorities are taking preventive measures seriously.

The authorities are closely monitoring poultry farms, and an alert has been sounded for poultry farm owners. While migratory birds enhance the ecological beauty of the region, there is an underlying risk of an avian influenza outbreak. In response, the Animal Husbandry Department urges the public to report any instances of unnatural bird deaths promptly.

In a precautionary move, the district has formed rapid action teams to respond swiftly to any potential outbreak. Poultry farms have also been instructed to follow biosecurity measures strictly. The vigilance extends to poultry farms in the district to prevent any possible transmission of the avian influenza virus.

While Himachal Pradesh has not reported any cases of bird flu yet, the authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety of both human and avian populations. The state had faced a bird flu scare a few years ago when suspicious deaths of migratory birds were reported at Pong Dam.

As a part of proactive measures, 113 samples have been sent for testing from the district recently. The Animal Husbandry Department remains on high alert, emphasizing the importance of early detection and reporting to prevent the potential spread of bird flu.
