Sundernagar, February 14 – Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) Chairman Manoj Tripathi stated that the Baggi Hydro Project (42 MW) could commence soon if the Himachal Pradesh government agrees to 12% free electricity as per the previous agreement.
Tripathi mentioned that the project is stalled due to the state’s new energy policy, which demands 20-40% free power, leading to a deadlock between BBMB and the government. The project had already received environmental and forest clearances, and even a tender was floated last year but was later canceled due to policy changes.
Highlighting BBMB’s commitment, Tripathi assured that the organization is ready to begin construction immediately if the government adheres to the earlier agreement. He also emphasized the rising project costs due to delays and urged authorities to resolve the issue at the earliest.
Additionally, he addressed staff shortages in BBMB-run schools and hospitals, calling on the Himachal government to appoint more teachers and doctors. Regarding the Dehar Power House, Tripathi revealed that a DPR for modernization is being prepared, awaiting central approval for execution.
