Awareness Workshop Held at Girls’ Shelter Home in Mashobra on Child Rights and Protection

Shimla Aug 28: An awareness workshop was organized at the Girls’ Shelter Home in Mashobra by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Shimla to educate children about their rights and protection from violence, abuse, exploitation, trafficking, and hazardous work.

District Programme Officer Mamta Pal highlighted that all facilities at children’s homes are being provided under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 and Mission Vatsalya Scheme. She also mentioned that under the Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashray Yojana, children are receiving social security and other benefits.

She informed the children about their right to protection, freedom of thought and religion, legal aid, and the right to express themselves. These fundamental rights aim to ensure the physical, mental, moral, social, and spiritual development of every child without discrimination.

Bhavna, the Center Manager from One Stop Centre, explained the support available to women and girls facing physical or mental trauma, and elaborated on key acts like POCSO, NDPS, and anti-trafficking laws. She also raised awareness about child marriage and how the department intervenes in such cases.

Ram Chand, coordinator from Childline, discussed the Child Marriage Act, POCSO Act, child rights, and child labour laws. He emphasized the need for proper child protection mechanisms in institutions.

Helpline numbers such as 15100 (Legal Services Authority) and 1098 (Child Helpline) were also displayed to ensure quick access to support in case of emergencies.
