Approximately 32% of Himachal falls under the earthquake-prone zone

Nahan, October 9: While we cannot prevent disasters, we can certainly minimize the loss of life and property caused by them. Himachal Pradesh has been divided into four and five zones according to seismic zoning. Approximately 32% of Himachal falls under the earthquake-prone zone. In terms of disaster risk, Sirmaur district has been categorized in ‘Zone 5,’ where the risk of landslides and earthquakes is higher.

The Fourth Home Guard Battalion, Nahan, led by Platoon Commander Naresh Kumar, organized a one-day workshop as part of the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Week 2023. Platoon Commander Santosh provided detailed information about ‘First Aid’ in the context of disaster management. He emphasized that administering first aid to a victim before receiving medical treatment can potentially save lives.

The workshop demonstrated practical first aid techniques tailored to disaster-affected individuals. It highlighted the importance of providing timely first aid to disaster-affected patients before they can access medical treatment.

Additionally, Dietician Shivani Thapa provided extensive information about disaster risk assessment, stating that awareness during disasters can reduce our losses. The workshop provided participants with in-depth knowledge about disaster risk reduction and preparedness.

The Fire Department conducted a mock drill during this event, offering participants valuable insights into dealing with disasters. Approximately 50 participants, including program coordinators from various schools, attended the workshop.

This initiative aimed to enhance awareness and preparedness for disaster management among the public, emphasizing that timely and appropriate action during disasters can significantly mitigate their impact and safeguard lives and property.
