1 min read

Shimla, Mar 22 – The appointment of the Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CU) has been challenged before the High Court. The court has issued a notice to the registrar of CU along with the central government seeking answers. The matter has been fixed for hearing on May 15. The petition filed by Dev Ashish Bhattacharya has challenged the appointment of Vice Chancellor Sat Prakash Bansal. It has been alleged that Professor Bansal has not been appointed as per the University Grants Commission Regulations, 2010.

According to the rules, a person to be appointed as Vice-Chancellor should have 10 years of experience as a professor in the university system or 10 years of experience in an equivalent position. It was argued that Bansal had only five years of experience as a professor, making him not suitable for appointment as Vice-Chancellor. It is alleged that the competent authority has appointed him Vice Chancellor of CU on July 22, 2021 against the rules.
