Apple Growers’ Union Holds First Kotkhai Block Conference, Forms New Committee

Shimla, February 23, 2026: The first conference of the Himachal Apple Growers’ Union, Kotkhai Block, was successfully held at Khaneti with participation from representatives of various villages and state committee members. Discussions focused on eviction-related issues, future strategies to safeguard orchardists’ rights, and demands for a government policy in line with Supreme Court directions on land matters. Speakers also raised concerns over proposed free trade agreements, electricity amendment policies, smart meters, and other issues affecting apple cultivation. A 23-member block-level committee was unanimously formed, with Jitendra Ratnaik (Rinku) elected as president. Delegates were also chosen for the upcoming district conference in Shimla, while members resolved to strengthen village-level committees and work collectively for growers’ welfare.
