Jai Devta Jabal Narayan SHG’s Organic Apple Barfi Gains Popularity with Monthly Sales of ₹35,000
Shimla, August 3:
Shimla’s Jai Devta Jabal Narayan Self-Help Group (SHG) is making headlines with their unique organic apple barfi, a delicacy that is not only delighting taste buds but also empowering rural women economically. The SHG prepares apple barfi through a meticulous, chemical-free process, ensuring it remains fresh and fungus-free for up to a year.
Starting with just ₹15,000 financial aid under NRLM in 2019, the group’s journey from pea farming to producing high-demand apple products has been inspirational. Their product range now includes apple cider vinegar, jams, chutneys, dried fruits, pickles, and the much-loved apple barfi, which is sold at ₹325 per box.
The SHG is currently selling about ₹25,000 worth of barfi to Kullu and other regions every month and also provides online delivery. Buyers can visit their stall at the Aspirational Haat near Padamdev Complex, Shimla, to purchase these organic delights.
Officials from NRLM and the district administration have assured continuous support through market linkages, training, and exhibition stalls, aiming to replicate such success stories in other tribal regions like Dodra Kwar.
