Anurag Singh Thakur Elected President of Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association

Shimla, October 5, 2025 – The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association (HPOA) was held in Shimla with enthusiastic participation from members across the state. During the meeting, a new team of office bearers was unanimously elected for the next term.
Former Union Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur was unanimously elected as the President of the Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association. The newly elected executive committee includes 17 members (as per the attached list).
Outgoing President Virender Kanwar was appointed as the Chief Patron of HPOA.
Other key office bearers include:
- Senior Vice President: MLA Balbir Verma
- General Secretary: Rajesh Bhandari
- Treasurer: Amitabh Sharma
- Vice Presidents: Ishwar Rohal, Usha Barowalia, and Narendra Atri
- Joint Secretaries: Raj Kumar Nittu, Dr. Rahul Pathania, and Ramesh Chauhan
In his address, Anurag Singh Thakur outlined HPOA’s priorities — strengthening sports infrastructure across the state, increasing the number of qualified coaches for Olympic disciplines, promoting grassroots participation to nurture young talent, and building a self-sustaining model for sports development and management in Himachal Pradesh.
He also highlighted the state’s natural advantage for high-altitude and endurance sports, emphasizing the need to prioritize them in the state’s sports agenda.
Thakur congratulated all newly elected members and expressed confidence that the new team will work collectively for the advancement of sports in Himachal Pradesh through transparent, effective, and visionary administration.
