Hamirpur, June 30, 2024: Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur addressed public meetings and engaged in grassroots outreach to garner support for BJP candidate Ashish Sharma in the ongoing by-elections in Himachal Pradesh. The events took place in Gram Sabha Mohi, Nalti, Anu, and Nalvin, where Thakur also tuned in to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio program, “Mann Ki Baat.”
Thakur criticized the Congress government, stating, “The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh is engulfed in arrogance. The three by-elections should have been held alongside the Lok Sabha and other assembly elections, but Congress delayed them out of fear of losing. This has imposed an additional burden on the state. The incompetence and broken promises of the Congress have angered the public, who are now ready to punish the party for its misdeeds. The people’s support is firmly with the BJP, and we are poised for a sweeping victory in these by-elections.”
He further added, “In the 18 months of Congress rule, neither Himachal nor Hamirpur has seen any development. They have only deceived the innocent people of the state with false guarantees and promises. In just 18 months, Congress has increased the state’s debt by ₹25,000 crore. When there was a double-engine government, we ensured significant development. However, with Congress in power, all progress has stalled. Under Modi’s leadership in the past decade, 25 crore Indians have been lifted out of poverty. Whether it’s 4 crore pucca houses, 13 crore tap water connections, 12 crore toilets, 11 crore LPG connections, free healthcare for 60 crore people, or free food grains for 81 crore people, all these benefits have been provided without any discrimination.”
Thakur also highlighted the Congress’s inadequate response to last year’s disaster in Himachal Pradesh, stating, “During the calamity, people saw the true face of Congress. The Modi government promptly provided ₹1,762 crore for relief. Thousands of crores were allocated under MNREGA, ₹2,700 crore for the PMGSY, and nearly 20,000 rural homes were sanctioned. However, the corrupt Congress government did nothing to aid the victims. Even in distributing tarpaulins, they showed favoritism, and mismanaged the funds provided by the Centre. In contrast, our BJP candidate Ashish Sharma has tirelessly served the people over the past 18 months. I urge all party workers to ensure a landslide victory for Ashish Sharma in Hamirpur, so he can continue his dedicated service as an MLA.”
