Empowering Women Through Self-Help Group, Creating Employment for 10 Others

Hamirpur, March 2: In a small village, Jandali Gujaran, in Nadaun subdivision, Anita Thakur has redefined traditional sweets by introducing oil-free, ghee-free, and sugar-free burfi, laddoo, and peda. Through her self-help group, Radhe Krishna SHG, she has set an example of self-reliance and entrepreneurship.

Initially selling dairy products, Anita expanded her business with support from the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) and training from the Agricultural Science Center. After her husband’s passing, she took on the financial responsibility of her family and started producing nutritious sweets made from papaya and amla. Today, her products are not only popular in Himachal Pradesh but also appreciated nationwide.

Her venture provides direct employment to 10 women. With the income generated, Anita has built a new house, funded her daughter’s wedding, and continues to support her two children. Her inspiring journey showcases how rural women can achieve financial independence with determination and government support.
