Ambulance Mishap in Solan: Patient’s Life Hangs in Balance as Tire Bursts
2 min readSolan, January 15:* A potentially disastrous incident was narrowly averted today when a 108 ambulance transporting a patient to the regional hospital in Solan experienced a tire burst. Covering a distance of less than five kilometers, the ambulance was en route to Chambaghat when its tire burst, highlighting the precarious condition of the emergency vehicle.
This morning, a 108 ambulance had been dispatched to pick up a patient, but when it reached Chambaghat after a journey of less than five kilometers, one of its tires burst. The fortunate aspect of the situation was that the ambulance did not overturn. The patient, still inside the ambulance, struggled for life during the approximately 20-minute ordeal before being shifted to another 108 ambulance and finally reaching the hospital.
The incident sheds light on the existing issues with the condition of ambulance tires, as this is not the first time such problems have been encountered. Even in the past week, during a routine inspection by the medical team, several shortcomings were identified in the condition of 108 ambulances.
The management of the ambulance service company claims that their vehicles are functioning correctly. However, ground reality presents a different story. It appears that the timely maintenance and replacement of tires for these ambulances are not ensured. While the government allocates funds for these purposes, the company’s management does not seem to prioritize the necessary upkeep.
It is imperative that responsible officers take the initiative to inspect the condition of ambulances in the field and ensure that maintenance and repairs, including timely tire replacements, are carried out to prevent potential accidents. District in-charge of 108 services, Anshul Sharma, asserts that their vehicles are in good condition, and all necessary procedures, including timely tire replacements, are routinely performed.
