Shimla, March 16: Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap informed that all tuberculosis patients in Shimla district have been provided nutrition kits under the Nikshay Mitra Initiative, aimed at supporting recovery through improved nutrition.
Chairing a meeting of the District TB Eradication Committee, the DC said the kits contain high-protein food items to help patients regain strength and recover faster. The meeting reviewed progress under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme, including TB preventive treatment, handheld X-ray facilities, and community support initiatives.
Officials informed that Shimla has emerged as the leading district in the state in initiating TB Preventive Treatment (TPT). During 2025, treatment was initiated in 968 cases against a target of 1,358, achieving about 71 percent. Under the national TB programme, 1,972 cases were detected against a target of 2,230, achieving 88 percent of the target.
The review also highlighted significant progress in diagnostic testing including HIV screening, diabetes testing, and drug sensitivity testing for TB patients. Under the **TB Mukt Bharat 2.0** campaign, 63,910 people have been screened through X-rays so far, out of the targeted 1,61,777 individuals. Portable handheld X-ray machines have been deployed in Rampur and Matiana areas to improve detection.
Officials also informed that 141 gram panchayats in the district have been declared TB-free, including 23 in the gold category, 34 in silver, and 84 in bronze.
To mark World Tuberculosis Day, a district-level event will be organized at Gaiety Theatre on March 24, where representatives of gold category panchayats will be honoured.
The Deputy Commissioner called for community participation to make Shimla completely TB-free, stressing that awareness and social cooperation are crucial for encouraging patients to seek timely treatment.
