Ajay’s Bamboo Craft Success Inspires Rural Entrepreneurship

Una, March 18 – Ajay from Dagdu village, Bangana, Una, has transformed his life through bamboo handicrafts, earning ₹50,000–₹60,000 per month while empowering local women with employment opportunities.
Ajay, 43, learned bamboo craft skills through YouTube after losing business during the 2020 lockdown. He founded Jagriti Bamboo Craft, creating handmade decorative and utility products. His journey gained momentum with support from district administration, NABARD, and DRDA, helping him secure stalls at major fairs, including Mandi Shivratri and Kullu Gandhi Shilp Bazaar.
Ajay received ₹2 lakh worth of machinery from the Una administration to refine his products. Bamboo India CEO Yogesh Shinde personally visited his workshop and praised his work. His venture provides **training and income opportunities to village women, enabling them to earn ₹5,000–₹6,000 per month.
Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal lauded Ajay’s success, aligning with CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s vision of rural youth entrepreneurship. The administration is also promoting bamboo-based industries under the Bamboo Village Project in Ghandawal, Una.
