Air-lifted Pregnant Women from Flood-Hit Region Receive Timely Medical Care
2 min readMandi, August 26: In a commendable effort, two pregnant women from the disaster-affected region were air-lifted on Saturday and transported to the Zonal Hospital in Mandi for medical treatment. The women, Reshma and Bolma, belong to the remote and affected village of Khollanal in the Seraj assembly constituency.
The village of Khollanal witnessed heavy damage on August 22 and 23 due to torrential rainfall. Numerous houses were submerged, and several others suffered structural damage. With no escape routes available, the villagers were left stranded. In response, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) led by SDM Bali Chowki arrived to rescue the residents. Among the rescued were these two pregnant women, who were struggling alongside their fellow villagers.
The NDRF team successfully rescued 51 individuals and transported them to the relief camp in Nagwain. These two pregnant women were also part of the group. Despite the challenging circumstances, the villagers managed to bring them to Nagwain with great difficulty since road access was completely cut off.
Due to the road closures, reaching a hospital was nearly impossible for these women. Thus, the Indian Air Force intervened, air-lifting them to safety via helicopter. From Nagwain, the pregnant women were transported to Bhuntar Airport by road and then airlifted to Mandi. Presently, both women are receiving necessary medical attention and are reported to be in good health.
The residents of Khollanal extend their heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhviner Singh Sukkhu and the Mandi district administration for their swift assistance. These two women express immense relief and appreciation for the support provided, as their concerns about reaching a hospital have now been alleviated.
