Bilaspur, Sept. 02
After weeks of uncertainty, patients under the Himcare scheme can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The Himachal Pradesh government has released ₹10 crore to AIIMS Bilaspur, enabling the hospital to resume major surgeries that had been stalled due to pending vendor payments.
For several days, vendors had stopped supplying essential equipment and implants, halting critical procedures such as hip and knee replacement surgeries. On average, the Orthopedics Department performs 25–30 such surgeries every month, but patients were left waiting with only diagnostic tests being conducted. With supply now restored, the hospital administration has assured that operations will return to normal soon.
Doctors highlighted that under Himcare and Ayushman Bharat schemes, patients benefit from surgeries costing just a fraction of the market rate—hip or knee replacements are covered for thousands of rupees instead of over ₹1.5 lakh when paid privately. The resumed supply will therefore significantly ease the financial burden of patients.
Additionally, AIIMS Bilaspur’s Amrit Pharmacy is set to normalize operations as medicine supplies have also been restored. Authorities confirmed that essential drugs and medical equipment will be available in the coming days across all departments.
Despite this relief, the government still owes AIIMS nearly ₹40 crore under Himcare and Ayushman schemes. However, the release of ₹10 crore has sparked optimism that the remaining dues will also be cleared soon, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare for eligible patients.
