Bilaspur, July 30: In a first for Himachal Pradesh, AIIMS Bilaspur has introduced Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) to treat patients with sexual disorders using a non-surgical and drug-free approach. The facility, currently operating with a demo machine, has successfully treated over 50 patients suffering from erectile dysfunction, chronic prostatitis, and pelvic pain syndrome. Most have reported significant relief within 2–3 sessions.

A tender has been issued for a permanent ESWT machine costing ₹70 lakh. Once installed, AIIMS Bilaspur will be among the few AIIMS institutes in the country offering this advanced therapy. ESWT uses targeted shock waves from outside the body to stimulate blood circulation and tissue repair, restoring organ function without surgery or medication. This marks a major leap in urological care for the hill state.
