2 min read

India is moving fast on the path to achieve the leadership position in the field of telecommunications which will also benefit rural areas of  Himachal Pradesh in telecom sector. 5Gi developed in India will cover rural areas of the country as well as in Himachal Pradesh and will ensure a large coverage at lower cost”.

The  5Gi connection will also reduce the number of towers/base stations that need to be deployed. It will also reduce power consumption and the electronic waste that will be generated.

The 5Gi is a strict superset of 5G, meaning, if a device works in a 5G environment then it will definitely work in a 5G environment. The Indian Industry and Academia have developed an indigenous standard, named 5Gi (5G-India), that will enable larger mobile coverage than the current global 5G standard”. Overall coordination for the development of 5Gi has been done by Prof. V. Kamakoti of IIT , Madras and Member of National Security Advisory Board.

This has been released to the press by Mr Devendra Kumar Sharma, Member, National Security Advisory Board. Mr Sharma also revealed that India has a very large customer base and once 5Gi is introduced, India will slowly move  towards achieving global leadership.

Once 5Gi is successfully deployed in India, there is a very good chance that it gets deployed elsewhere in the World leading it to become a global standard. This is once-in-century opportunity for India to have its own standard globalized and become a global leader in one of the vital technology, Mr Sharma added.

Mr Sharma, Member, National Security Advisory Board hails from Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh. Sharma has been associated with the water and power sector for about 40 years.
