Yellow alert for four days
735 roads including the Shimla-Rampur National Highway, 224 drinking water schemes and 990 power transformers have come to a standstill amid heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh. Cloudy rains occurred in many areas of Chamba, Kangra and Mandi districts on Tuesday night and Wednesday. A yellow alert has been issued for heavy rains from July 20 to 23 in many areas of the state. The weather is likely to remain bad in the state till July 25.
The National Highway came to a standstill at 6:00 am on Wednesday due to landslides and a stone fall near Shilaru, adjacent to Theog, Shimla. Cars going from Rajdhani to Upper Shimla are being diverted via Basantpur and Matiana. The National Highway remained at a standstill till late Wednesday evening. Drizzle continued throughout the day in the capital Shimla on Wednesday. Schools in Kumarsain sub-division have also been closed till July 22 due to heavy rains.
