Portmore School Hosts Felicitation Ceremony for National School Games Medalists

Shimla, May 20, 2025 — Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur felicitated the medal winners of the 68th National School Games at a grand function held at Portmore Girls Senior Secondary School, Shimla. The event was organized by the Himachal School Sports Association to honor the young achievers who brought glory to the state in various sports disciplines.

Addressing the gathering, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting both education and sports for the holistic development of students. “Qualitative education and a strong sporting culture go hand-in-hand. We are proud of our athletes who have excelled nationally, and our efforts will continue to create better opportunities for them,” he said.

This year, 718 athletes from Himachal participated in the National School Games. The state won a total of 33 medals3 Gold, 6 Silver, and 24 Bronze—with notable performances in boxing and kurash, each contributing 10 medals.

The Education Minister also highlighted key government initiatives such as increasing diet money for student-athletes, strengthening sports hostels, and providing a ₹1 crore grant to the School Sports Association. Additionally, Portmore students who excelled in academics and cultural performances were also felicitated.

Medal winners received a cash award of ₹5,000 (Gold), ₹3,000 (Silver), and ₹2,000 (Bronze), along with certificates and mementos. Coaches and teachers were also honored.
