Contradictory Statements from CM and Deputy CM: Rajeev Bindal

1 min read

Shimla, March 4, 2025 – Himachal Pradesh BJP President Dr. Rajeev Bindal has criticized the state government over its directives regarding temple funds. He pointed out that around 40 major temples in the state have been taken over by the government over time, with the primary purpose of utilizing their offerings for temple development, pilgrim facilities, and religious activities. Bindal emphasized that these funds are meant for infrastructure improvements, food and water arrangements, priest salaries, and the upkeep of idols and ornaments.

He further highlighted that several small but significant temples in Himachal lack substantial offerings, making their maintenance difficult. Therefore, a system was established to allocate a portion of large temple donations to support these smaller temples. However, the recent notification issued to district collectors mandates that temple funds be used for government schemes, which he termed unacceptable.

Dr. Bindal also accused the government of inconsistency, stating that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy CM, and Congress spokespersons have made conflicting statements on the issue. He asserted that regardless of internal disagreements within the Congress government, BJP will not allow the misappropriation of temple trust funds.
