Approval Granted for Land Rights in Dodra Kwar and Shimla Urban Projects

Shimla, February 15: A special meeting under the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap. During the meeting, approval was granted for the allocation of forest rights to several villages in the Dodra Kwar region, including Jakha, Kitwari, Jiskoon, Dhandwari, Pandar, Ashanda, Dodra Doyam, Dodra Abbal, and Chanaun.

In the urban area of Shimla, the meeting also approved FRA clearance for the construction of an ambulance route from the PWD road to Verma Apartment, Kufthadhar, Ward No. 2 Ruldbhatta, and for the road construction work related to the Industry Department’s office.

Deputy Commissioner Kashyap highlighted that the Forest Rights Act is a significant law recognizing the rights of communities living in forests. Known as the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, it aims to rectify historical injustices faced by forest-dwelling communities dependent on forests for livelihood, housing, and other socio-cultural needs.

He emphasized that all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) would submit reports on the current status of forest rights under their jurisdiction, which will be presented in the upcoming District Revenue meeting.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Verma, Additional Magistrate Jyoti Rana, DFO Rohru N Ravishankar, DFO Pawan Kumar Chauhan, District Revenue Officer Sanjeet Sharma, District Council Member Lata Verma, and other dignitaries.
