Jairam Thakur Advises CM to Worry About His Position

2 min read

Mandi, November 5, 2024: In a press conference held in Mandi, former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition, Jairam Thakur, launched a scathing attack on the current Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhu. Thakur urged the Chief Minister to focus on his precarious position rather than worrying about him, suggesting that Sukhu’s chair could fall at any moment due to the government’s failures.

Thakur asserted that the Congress party has failed to deliver on the guarantees it made before coming to power, leading to a situation where the government’s two-year tenure has become a spectacle of incompetence nationwide. He remarked, “While the Chief Minister accuses the opposition of trying to save their chair, it is clear that his own seat is more unstable.”

Thakur criticized the Chief Minister for his false statements and pointed out that the growing discontent among ministers and legislators within the government is evident as they hold separate meetings in protest. He highlighted the recent hurried meeting where Sukhu had to summon his ministers to address the unrest, indicating a significant lack of confidence in his leadership.

The Leader of the Opposition noted that there are ongoing disputes among Congress leaders over inaugurating developmental projects, specifically mentioning the state’s first ropeway in Panhokhar, which was completed at a cost of ₹55 crores with NABARD’s assistance. He claimed that due to infighting among Congress leaders, the inauguration has been delayed as they all seek to claim credit for the project, which was initiated by the previous BJP government.

Thakur emphasized the need for political parties to stop making unrealistic promises to gain power, suggesting that the Election Commission should issue guidelines to prevent such practices. He contrasted the Congress party’s approach with that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that while Modi fulfills his guarantees, the Congress party has failed to deliver on its commitments, resulting in public disillusionment.

Thakur concluded by stating that the recent elections in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir revealed that the public has placed their trust solely in the guarantees provided by Prime Minister Modi and the BJP, as opposed to the hollow promises made by the Congress party. He was accompanied by BJP state spokesperson Ajay Rana, state vice president Payal Vaidya, BJP district president Nihal Chand Sharma, and Municipal Corporation Mayor Virender Bhatt during the press conference.
