Four-Day Capacity Building and Livelihood Generation Workshop on Pine Needle Handicrafts Concludes at Science Teaching and Creativity Centre, Shoghi

Shimla, October 28, 2024: The four-day capacity building and livelihood generation workshop on pine needle handicraft products, organized by the Science Teaching and Creativity Centre, Shoghi, Shimla, under the aegis of EICAP-PC Hub, Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology, and Environment (HIMCOSTE), concluded on October 28, 2024. Thirteen women from Gram Panchayat Tingrit, Lahaul-Spiti, were trained during this workshop, which was held from October 25 to 28, 2024.

The workshop was conducted under the chairmanship of Dr. Suresh C. Atri, Joint Member Secretary, HIMCOSTE. Mrs. Priyanka Sharma, Coordinator, EICAP PC-Hub, HIMCOSTE, stated that the primary objective of the workshop was to empower women by training them in creating handicrafts from pine needles, thus generating income while also contributing to environmental conservation by utilizing pine needles, which are often left unused.

Mrs. Sharma thanked the participating women for dedicating their time to attend the workshop and encouraged them to continue creating various products, which could serve as a viable source of income. The participants were trained by Mrs. Anjana Devi from Jagriti Self Help Group, Kandaghat, Solan, in making handicraft items such as table mats, coasters, baskets, vases, and trays from pine needles.

At the conclusion of the workshop, certificates were awarded to the women participants from Gram Panchayat Tingrit, Lahaul-Spiti, by EICAP PC-Hub, HIMCOSTE. The successful organization of the event was supported by Ajay Panwar, Ritvik Chauhan, and Jay Priya from EICAP-PC Hub.
