343 Roads Blocked in Himachal Due to Landslides

Shimla, July 30: Amid ongoing orange alert, incessant rains continue to disrupt life in Himachal Pradesh. Landslides in Chamba’s Bhatiyat region stranded a Bolero vehicle, though all passengers escaped unhurt. In Mangli village of Churah, several homes were hit by a hillside landslide, while multiple key roads like Tarela-Baoderi-Mangli and Shikari Mod-Ganed-Bihali remain blocked, affecting connectivity.

As of Wednesday morning, 343 roads were shut across the state due to landslides, with 551 power transformers and 186 water supply schemes disrupted. Mandi remains the worst-hit with 217 roads and 155 transformers affected.

AI-based weather forecasts predict widespread light to moderate rainfall till August 5, with orange alerts for Chamba, Kangra, and Mandi today, and yellow alerts for several days ahead. Since June 20, monsoon damage includes 170 deaths, over 1,600 houses and shops damaged, and economic losses exceeding ₹1,538 crore.

The Chandigarh-Manali highway saw renewed landslides at 9 Mile and Kanchi Mod early Wednesday, halting traffic till partial restoration by 8 AM. Authorities have urged travelers to avoid mountain routes unless essential.

In Kangra, at least 11 roads remain blocked, with rivers and streams swollen. The administration remains on high alert, monitoring the situation and deploying relief teams across vulnerable zones.
