Kangra, Oct 27 Resentment prevailed among hundreds of residents of Ansoli panchayat on the outskirts of this temple town due to lack of water supply over the last four days leaving people in the lurch during the festival days of Danteras, Deepavali, Govardhan puja and Bhaiya Dooj.
Ansoli Panchayat Pradhan Ambika Devi on Thursday told UNI that a population of 1,400 people residing in her panchayat had been craving drinking water for the last four days since the supply got disrupted ahead of the Deepavali week.
She said: “The residents had been moving with pitchers on their heads to get drinking water from far-off places and that too when it was a festival season and the IPH authorities were mute spectators to their trauma.”
Up-pradan Ravi Kumar said people had to suffer here when three festivals Dhanteras, Deepawali and Bhaiya Dooj were falling in a row, and people were craving water.
A resident, Ajay Kumar, alleged that the administration is busy with poll preparations and the people are victims of political apathy.
Ambika Devi alleged that she rang up the IPH officers but no official including the Executive Engineer, IPH Kàngra Division picked up their phones as they “perhaps were enjoying festivals at their homes”.
She threatened that if the water supply is not resorted by Thursday evening the villagers will be forced to block the National Highway passing through her panchayat on Friday.
She demanded the intervention of the Engineer – in – Chief IPH for restoring the water supply.
