27th ICPSU Carrom Tournament successfully concluded at Tehri Complex, THDCIL

Rishikesh, 22-06-2024: The 27th Inter-CPSU Carrom Tournament, hosted by THDC India Limited from June 18th to 22nd, 2024, under the esteemed banner of the Power Sports Control Board, Ministry of Power, culminated successfully today at Tehri, Uttarakhand. This prestigious five-day event, aimed at promoting sportsmanship and fostering healthy competition among participants, witnessed enthusiastic participation from 12 teams representing various PSUs of the Power Sector viz. Ministry of Power(MOP), Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), National Hydro Electric Power Corporation(NHPC), Grid India, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVNL), North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), Power Finance Corporation (PFC), Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd. (REC), Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and host team THDC India Limited (THDCIL).
Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director, THDC India Limited extended his heartfelt congratulations to the winners for their exceptional performances and expressed delight at the immense talent and dedication displayed by all participants. Sh. Vishnoi commended the Team work, skill, and sportsmanship exhibited throughout the tournament. He emphasized the pivotal role of such sporting events in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among employees and promoting camaraderie within Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). Sh. Vishnoi also noted the exemplary organization of the tournament, highlighting its transparency and objectivity.
Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical) THDCIL, graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest. He underscored the significance of sports in personal and professional development and lauded the participants for showcasing dedication, talent, and passion, which contributed to the resounding success of the event. Sh. Gupta presented the deserving winners with awards and accolades in recognition of their achievements. Additionally, he extended words of encouragement to those players and teams who faced setbacks during the matches, motivating them to remain resilient and prepared for future tournaments without losing heart.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Sh. L. P. Joshi, Executive Director (Tehri Complex). Sh. Joshi conveyed gratitude to the Uttaranchal Carom association led by Sh. A. K. Gupta, Chief Referee of the tournament for the exceptional efforts in ensuring a seamless and fair competition. Dr. A. N. Tripathy, GM (HR-Admin, CC) Sh. M. K. Singh, GM (Mechanical and Civil), Sh. Vijay Sehgal (Legal and Rehab coordination), Dr. Namita Dimri (CMO-In charge, Tehri Hospital) along with other senior officers and employees of THDCIL were also present during the occasion.
In this 05-day Carrom Tournament, team championship matches, Doubles and Singles matches for men and women were played. In the Men’s Team Championship matches, team NEEPCO achieved first position, MOP secured second and Grid India secured third position whereas in Women’s Team Championship matches, team MoP secured first position, PFC secured second position and Grid India achieved third position.
In Men’s Doubles Matches, Sh. Paritosh Gupta and Sh. M. P. Chamoli from team MoP won first prize, Sh. Keshav Bora and Sh. Utpal Das from team Grid India secured second position and Sh. R. K. Sensua and Sh. D. Saikia from team NEEPCO secured the third position.
In women’s Doubles matches, Ms. Sushma Chauhan and Ms. Karuna Sharma from team SJVNL secured first place, Ms. Saroj Devi and Ms. Jaya Chaudhary from team MOP secured second and Ms. Kritika Debnath and Ms. Himani Dutta from team Grid India secured third positions.
In Men’s Single matches, Sh. Paritosh Gupta from team MOP secured first position, Sh. D. Saikia from NEEPCO and Sh. M. P. Chamoli from MOP secured second and third positions respectively.
In Women’s Single matches, Ms. Jaya Chaudhary from team MoP secured first position, Ms. Saroj Devi from MoP and Ms. Karuna Sharma from team SJVNL secured second and third positions respectively.
THDCIL, a leading Mini Ratna Category-1 CPSU, is renowned for its contributions in Hydro Power Generation and Renewable Energy sectors across India. Currently managing an energy capacity of 1587 MW from Hydro, Wind, and Solar sources, THDCIL is poised for further expansion.
