1 min readShimla, Jun 20 – The protest by villagers of three-gram panchayats in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh against 100 MW Shorang project continued for a second consecutive day on Tuesday.
The project is situated at the gateway of Kinnaur and people of three gram panchayats affected due to the project have been sitting on ‘dharna’ in front of office of the Shorang Hydroelectric Project since yesterday (Monday) in support of their demands.
The villagers of Chaura, Rupi and Bada Kamba alleged that none of their demands were fulfilled as per the agreement made during the acquisition of their lands.
They further alleged that the company has started generating power, but they have not honored the terms of the agreement made with project-affected people.
As per the agreement, the company has promised to provide employment to local people and pensions to project affected as well as royalty to panchayats.
Apart from this, the company is reluctant to give one percent of the total electricity produced to the people of affected areas as per provisions of the Power Policy 2008, they alleged.
A delegation of the panchayat representatives today met Shorang project manager Anoop Banyal regarding their demands, who assured them that their demands would be fulfilled soon.
Banyal said that the provision of employment and pension is linked to Relief & Rehabilitation policy.
