Shimla, Sept 10: The Himachal Pradesh government has accelerated the process of affiliating 200 state-run schools with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from the academic year 2026-27. The Directorate of School Education has released a provisional list of 229 schools, including 47 PM Shri and Excellence Schools, shortlisted for the transition.
The roadmap includes infrastructure mapping, online registration, inspection, and teacher training in line with CBSE and NEP guidelines. The estimated cost per school for registration, inspection, and related processes is around ₹70,000, excluding repair and upgradation expenses to meet affiliation norms.
District-wise, Kangra will have the highest number of schools (41), followed by Shimla (34), Mandi (29), and others. Officials stated that the move will give students equal opportunities in national-level competitive exams like JEE, NEET, and NDA while improving teaching quality, assessment methods, and skill development.
The affiliation process will be completed in phases — starting with infrastructure mapping (till Sept 30, 2025), applications (Oct 2025), inspection (Jan 2026), and affiliation grant with curriculum transition (Feb 2026).
