189 Water Supply Schemes Restored in Thunag

Mandi, July 16 – Relief and rehabilitation operations continue in full swing in the disaster-hit Saraj region of Mandi district following the cloudburst, flash floods, and landslides on the night of June 30–July 1, 2025. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Thunag, Ramesh Kumar, said significant damage was inflicted on public property and essential infrastructure in the area.
Out of the 299 water supply schemes under the Jal Shakti Division Thunag, 241 were damaged, and 189 have now been temporarily restored. Drinking water is being supplied fully to 30 panchayats and partially to 51 panchayats.
In terms of road connectivity, the SDM reported that 35 roads were severely damaged. 10 roads, including Mandi-Chailchowk-Janjehli and Pandoh-Kandha, have been reopened to traffic, while 23 local roads are partially operational. Major damage was reported on the Bagsyad-Shikawari and Tandi-Droun roads, where restoration work is ongoing.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has deployed 52 machines across the affected areas, including 12 L&T machines, 27 JCBs, 9 tippers, 2 air compressors, and 2 tractors to expedite the road-clearing operations.
Regarding power supply, in the Janjehli Electrical Sub-Division, 202 distribution transformers were impacted, of which 162 have been restored. In the Chhatri region, all 78 transformers have been successfully brought back online.
